Subic Bay Underwater Photography Gallery
A selection of Subic Bay underwater photography – wreck and marine life underwater photos, Philippines.
Subic Bay is famous for shipwrecks, but is often under-rated as a destination for marine life and underwater photography. However, many of the shipwrecks in the Bay have formed into vibrant and plentiful artificial reefs, that attract a variety of macro and pelagic marine life. Subic Bay also boasts a selection of colorful reefs and interesting muck dive sites – be sure to ask to visit those, if you have a preference!
Macro and Pelagic Marine Life, Subic Bay
The dive sites around Grande Island, including the San Quentin wreck, Barges and Canyons reefs typically offer good visibility (20m+) and are excellent places to spot nudibranch and other macro life. The deep wrecks, such as the Landing Ship Tank, function as ‘cleaning stations’ for visiting pelagics – whalesharks, manta ray, eagle ray, giant barracuda and bull sharks have been spotted here.
Muck Diving, Subic Bay
There are also some great ‘muck’ dives – particularly around the area of Baloy/Barretto beaches. On a few ‘secret spots’ you can find hairy frogfish, seahorses, coconut octopus and a variety of pipefish species.
Night Diving, Subic Bay
Night dives can also be spectacular. Lighthouse Reef is my favorite, having seen Mimic Octopus and Flamboyant Cuttlefish there – it offers some really rare treats!
