This results intangibly and irrevocably setting a strong consumer expectation that scuba diving is a very cheap thing to do. People will happily pay substantially more for an hour of golf, tennis, or driving tuition than they would for a multi-day open water course.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Once set, those consumer expectations stick&#8230;&nbsp;<strong>hard<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That&#8217;s when desperate dive shops start competing for business, through the equally insane modus-operandi of <a href=\"https:\/\/scubatechphilippines.com\/scuba_blog\/the-scuba-diving-industry-cost-versus-quality\/\">price-cutting competition<\/a>. But that&#8217;s ok, right?&nbsp; Because profitability can be recouped from other aspects of the business. Dream on&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"232\" src=\"https:\/\/scubatechphilippines.com\/scuba_blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/Peanuts-Monkeys-2.jpg\" alt=\"Desperate Dive Shop\" class=\"wp-image-6410\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Cheapening training has an effect. Courses become threadbare at best. They have to be done quickly, at minimum operating cost and maximum student volume. It does not empower quality dive training.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So it becomes normal that students don&#8217;t appreciate any real value from these &#8216;bare minimum&#8217; courses. leading brands such as Oceanic, Hollis, Atomic Aquatics, BARE, Liquivision, Sharkskin, Stahlsac and Zeagle were <strong>all<\/strong> bought out by the big conglomerate Huish Outdoors LLC in recent years.\u00a0 (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.xray-mag.com\/content\/huish-outdoors-acquires-oceanic-and-hollis\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Huish Outdoors Acquires Oceanic And Hollis<\/a>) Huish also took over US distribution of Suunto computers at the beginning of 2016.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So, what&#8217;s the result for the desperate scuba shops that got suckered into this &#8216;dealer network&#8217; concept as they try to recoup some profit from their insane dive training model?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span data-ft=\"{&quot;tn&quot;:&quot;K&quot;}\"><span class=\"UFICommentBody _1n4g\">They&#8217;re pushed into an attempt to flog the highest-priced, most unnecessary kit that they can.\u00a0Their survival depends on those equipment sales.\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span data-ft=\"{&quot;tn&quot;:&quot;K&quot;}\"><span class=\"UFICommentBody _1n4g\">That&#8217;s just a\u00a0ludicrous business situation to get into &#8211;
